Shukokai karate was first established as a style of karate in the late 40s by its creator sensei chojiro tani, who from an early age trained in all styles of karate under well known and respected sensei's such as chojun miyagi who is the founder of the gojo-ryu karate, and sensei kenwa mabuni who is the founder of shito-ryu.
Sensei tani first used the name shukokai for his dojo in kobe japan in 1946. Shukokai which means the meaning of all which sensei tani used the study of body mechanics to maximize strikes and use high stances to aid mobility and in recent years has become known as one of the hardest hitting styles of karate. While teaching karate sensei tani always emphasized the importance of etiquette, respect, disclipline and the importance to perfect each technique.
After sensei tani had retired from being the chief director of shukokai he handed the title over to his most senior pupil sensei shigeru kimura constantly made improvements to the style, one of his core beliefs was that each technique must be battle effective and that the outcome of any fight should be decided on a single technique any more was too many as per the old beliefs of the samurai warriors.
And through these beliefs and teachings of karate we have the shukokai that gets taught today with the traditions of the old masters and is combat effective.
