Class Information
Each class will always begin with a basic warm up of stretches and exercise such as running, star jump, press ups or sit ups etc, This is designed to help reduce any joint/muscular injury whist taking part within the class.
Most karate classes are split into 4 sections these are.
- KIHON - kihon is the very basic techniques used within karate from blocks, kicks, strikes etc as you progress through each grade you will learn more advance techniques such as elbow strikes, knee strikes and sweeps as well as sweeping techniques which must take great care when practicing, also self defense techniques.
- KATA - kata is a series of choreographed techniques, which is used to help the learner not only to further enhance each technique but also to perform each technique while imaging a opponent in front of them. there are numerous katas within shukokai karate with the beginners katas being shiozuki 1-6 and gakku ichi.
- KUMITE - kumite is one on one sparing which helps the learner to further there techniques from strikes to blocks and get used to defending unannounced attacks from there opponent.
- BUNKAI - bunkai is the application of moves that goes along with each kata and are practiced as a series of moves not just for kata but also as a form of self defense.
