Irvine Takeda Karate Club fully recognizes its responsibilities for child protection.
Our policy applies to all instructors and volunteers within the club. There are 5 main elements to the club's policy:

Our policy applies to all instructors and volunteers within the club. There are 5 main elements to the club's policy:
- Ensuring that we follow safe systems in checking the suitability of all instructors and volunteers who have direct contact with children.
- Raising awareness of child protection issues and equipping children with the skills needed to keep them safe.
- Developing and then implementing procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases of abuse.
- Supporting students who have been abused in accordance with his/her agreed child protection plan.
- Establishing a safe environment in which children can train, learn and develop.
We recognize that because of the regular contact with children, instructors are well placed to observe the outward signs of abuse. The club will therefore:
- Establish and maintain an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to.
- Ensure children know that there are adults within the club whom they can approach with any concerns or worries.
- Include opportunities during training sessions for children to develop the skills they need to recognize and stay safe from abuse.
We will follow the procedures set out by the Scottish Karate Governing Body and take account of guidance issued by all Local and National Government bodies to:
- Ensure we have a designated senior person for child protection who has received appropriate training and support for this role.
- Ensure every instructor within the Irvine takeda karate club knows the name and contact details of the designated senior person responsible for child protection and their role within the club.
- Ensure safe practices are followed
- Ensure all instructors and volunteers understand their responsibilities in being alert to the signs of abuse and their responsibilities for referring any concerns to the designated senior person in charge of child protection.
- Ensure that parents have an understanding of the responsibility placed on the clubs within the association for child protection.
- Develop effective links with relevant agencies and co-operate as required with their enquiries regarding child protection matters including attendance at case conferences.
- Keep written records of concerns about children, even when there is no need for refer the matter immediately.
- Ensure all records are kept in a secure, locked location.
- Develop & follow procedures where an allegation is made against an instructor or volunteer.
- Liase with other agencies that support the child such as Social services, Child & Adult mental health service, education welfare service and educational psychology service.
